Highlights

  • NexBridge, Japan’s full-stack infrastructure provider for regulated yen stablecoins, signs a memorandum of understanding with Matter Labs to bring Prividium to Japanese financial institutions
  • Japanese banks, trust banks and securities firms will gain a local partner for issuance, settlement and tokenization on infrastructure the institution itself governs
  • The companies will jointly develop use cases matched to Japan’s regulatory, security and operational requirements

Tokyo, October 6, 2026 — NexBridge Inc. and Matter Labs today announced a memorandum of understanding to bring Prividium, Matter Labs’ platform for institution-operated private ledgers, to financial institutions in Japan. Under the agreement, NexBridge will market and distribute Prividium to Japanese financial institutions, and the two companies will jointly build the market for institutional digital assets in the country.

The partnership arrives as Japan’s regulatory framework moves decisively toward institutional scale. The amended Payment Services Act came into full force in June 2026. Japanese institutions now have a clear path to issue, settle and service digital assets at commercial volume and a corresponding need for infrastructure that satisfies their supervisors as well as their engineers.

Prividium is designed for exactly that requirement. Each institution operates its own dedicated ledger, with execution private to the institution and its regulators, and correctness verified on Ethereum through zero-knowledge proofs, while transaction and customer data stay inside the institution’s environment. Permissioning, identity and compliance controls are built into the platform rather than layered on top. On Sept. 9, Matter Labs open-sourced the Prividium permissioning engine, and the Deutsche Bundesbank became the first institution to deploy Prividium on its own self-hosted infrastructure for testing.

NexBridge brings the other half of the picture. The Tokyo-based company provides the technology that licensed banks and trust banks use to run regulated JPY stablecoins across the full lifecycle: issuance and redemption, HSM-secured custody, and cross-border transfer and settlement — built specifically for Japanese financial institutions and their regulatory environment. Together, the two companies offer Japanese institutions a private ledger they govern themselves and the issuance, custody and settlement services to run a digital asset business on top of it, delivered and supported locally.

The companies intend to jointly pursue opportunities across trust-type stablecoin issuance by trust banks, tokenized deposits for banks, cross-border settlement, and the tokenization of securities and real-world assets, and to share market feedback that shapes product localization for Japan.

“Japanese institutions have moved from studying digital assets to building with them. What they have been missing is a ledger they can genuinely call their own: private by default, auditable by their regulators, and operated inside their own perimeter. Prividium gives us that foundation, and our partnership means Japanese institutions can adopt it with a partner who understands their supervisors, their security requirements and their language.”
Jean Zhu, Representative Director of NexBridge
“The institutions building on Prividium have one thing in common: they want the control and the privacy of their own infrastructure without giving up the neutrality of a public settlement layer. Japan is one of the most consequential markets in the world for institutional digital assets, and NexBridge has built exactly the capability it demands. This partnership gives Japanese institutions a trusted local route to Prividium and to ZKsync.”
